Directions and notice for the apprehension of Jerry[1]

No. 9

            24/9                                                                              Glendon         August 6th 1824

            Mr Earl,

You are required to make the enclosed notice as public as possible for general information, & to act upon it yourself as vigilantly as you can.   The native is the same who stole the dog from the Blaxland's people, & hence the serious encounter that ensued.   If taken he must be sent to Wallis Plains to be tried by a bench.               As there are several natives by the name of “Jerry” you must be cautious lest you take the wrong one & give cause for ill-will, which must of all other things be avoided.

                                                                                                                   Robert Scott   JP

Notice

Four Dollars Reward will be given to any person or persons who shall safely lodge the black native “Jerry” belonging to the St Patricks Plains tribe in the custody of any Constable or any other properly authorized person.

The native has outrageously attacked bruised & robbed a defenceless boy.   This is the second serious offence, the said black native “Jerry” has been guilty of: all constables and every other person is therefore required to use their utmost endeavours to secure him & check such conduct in its infancy.

                                                                                                            Robert Scott   J.P .
