Mr. Brooks Esq to R Scott - black depredations, complaining of theft: 27 February 1829
[108]
Dalziel , Hunters River
27 Febry 1829
Sir,
Of late the Blacks have stolen a considerable quantity of corn from me, and yesterday they were observed on the west side of the creek making observations. Today they are assembled in great numbers armed, in the same place, I certainly am not aware whether you can take any steps to prevent to continuance of their ravages, but as they assume a menacing appearance, I think it my duty to inform you as the nearest magistrate. I am Sir
Your most obedient servant
W Brooks
R Scott [etc]
[109]
P. S. I find they were in the corn field today, and by overseer to frighten them, fired over their heads when several of them, aimed their spears at him.
