Document 18 Col. Sec. to R Scott Esq. - Enquiry on black shot by police. R v Lowe decision: 9 October 1826[1] [72] Colonial Secretary's Office October 9th 1826 Sir, I am directed by His Excellency the Governor to request that in conjunction with the other Magistrates named in the Margin [in margin "Capt Allman , Mr. Close, Mr. Webber, Mr. Macleod"] , or any two of them, in case of the unavoidable absence of the others, you will make particular enquiry and take depositions respecting the circumstances of the death of a Black Native who is reported to have been taken by the Mounted Police and that, soon after the Murder of Dr. Bowman's Servant, this being understood to be a case distinct from that of the three natives respectively whose deaths the Magistrates have already reported.
