Up the Pond
In 1820, when Francis Forbes was Chief Justice of Newfoundland, he wrote a small piece of music called ``The Banks of Newfoundland". It is also known as ``Up the Pond," and is played on Regatta Day each year in St John's, the capital of Newfoundland. The regatta is said to be the oldest, continuously running sporting event in North America.
