Sir,

His Excellency the Governor having in a letter to Capt Allman of the 20th ult o directed that Officer, in conjunction with yourself and other Magistrates therein named, to investigate the circumstances attending the killing of three native blacks by the Mounted Police, I am now instructed to inform you, that His Excellency desires this investigation may take place at your residence, as being a more centrial [sic?] situation than Newcastle. Captain Allman has been made acquainted with this arrangement, as well as Lieut. Lowe who is to be present.
