Business Law Sub-Major and Major
Business Law units are relevant to a variety of programs offered by Macquarie University. The following information provides an introduction to various sequences of study in Business Law, including the Business Law Sub-Major, the Business Law Major, and the study of specialised subjects in Business Law.
Business Law Sub-Major
Those who enroll in Accounting and Financial Studies in the Division of Economic and Financial Studies will study a three Business Law units which are recognised for professional accounting careers - BUSL250 Business Law; BUSL301 Corporations Law and BUSL320 Revenue Law.
Business Law Major
Whether in the social sciences or the humanities, the possible combinations of study under the Macquarie undergraduate degree structure are virtually endless. The Business Law Major provides a unique education enhancement of other fields of study and we recommend the study of a Business Law Major in combination with another major.
If you undertake a Business Law Major, along with some Economics units, you are able to meet the requirements for a BCom or BEc.
If you choose to undertake a Business Law Major with another major, such as a major in Accounting and Finance, you will graduate with a BCom (with majors in Accounting and Finance). A separate letter is prepared and signed by the Head of Department for students who completed the Business Law Major.
If you undertake a Business Law Major on its own, or in conjunction with another area of study such as Politics or History, you will be able to meet the requirements for a BA.
What is required for a Business Law Major?
For a Business Law Major, you must choose at least four 300-level Business
Law units, one of which must be BUSL315
Business Litigation. BUSL201
Law in Australian Society (GPA prerequisite of 2.0) and BUSL250
Business Law must be completed beforehand.
Why complete a Business Law Major?
The Business Law Major will provide valuable insights and skills to add
to basic qualifications in almost any field of employment including business
consultancies, public relations, human resources, legal publishing, government
policy development and implementation, advocacy and lobbying work for government,
industry or community organisations.
Specialised Business Law Units
You may only be interested in select aspects of the Business Law units. Once you have completed the foundation unit BUSL250 Business Law, you will be able to enroll in almost all Business Law units at 300 level.
Business Law units are not offered to first year students.
