Prof. Ken Piddington was formerly Commissioner for the Environment and subsequently Director-General of the Department of Conservation in New Zealand. Appointed by the World Bank to be its first Director of Environment in 1988. On retirement from full-time professional work in 1992, became part-time academic and formed an NGO group to promote sustainable energy in New Zealand. Currently Acting Chair of the NZ Photovoltaic Association. Focussing on environmental tax reform as the prerequisite for truly sustainable development, and on energy as the key sector of the national economy in terms of environmental outcomes.
