A delegation from Wuhan University visited the Centre for Environmental Law on the 24th of April to discuss further ways to enhance the collaborative relationship established between Wuhan's Research Institute of Environmental Law (RIEL) and MU-CEL as a result of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between both universities in February 2006. These initial meetings have resulted in one of RIEL's outstanding graduates of its Masters program, Ms Xiaoyi Jiang gaining admission to MU-CEL's PhD program as well as obtaining a full scholarship under Professor Jeffery's supervision. Xiaoyi's area of study will be explore the opportunities and challenges raised by the CDM under the Kyoto Protocol from China's perspective and to put forward solutions to the many problems of implementing the CDM in such a populous country. She joins fellow
Chinese students Bo (Kevin) Miao and Min (Miranda ) Jiang who are both nearing completion of their PhD studies.

Another outstanding candidtae who obtained his Masters Degree from Tsinghua University is scheduled to commence his PhD studies in second semester 2007.

Those attending the meeting on 24 April representing Wuhan University were Mr Lu Jiangbin, Director of the International Office, Mr Gui Ling, Deputy Director of American, Oceania and African Affairs and Ms Guo Liang, Secretary of the Chinese Consulate in Sydney and formerly with Mr. Gui's office.
