MU-CEL initiates exciting new research initiative with Wuhan University 's Research Institute of Environmental Law (RIEL).
Professors Michael Jeffery and Donna Craig met in early July of this year in Sydney with Professor Hu De-kun, Vice President of Wuhan University , Peoples Republic of China . They exchanged views on the growing importance of environmental law and the opportunities for enhanced cooperation in research on environmental law between China and Australia, and by WHU and MU-CEL with the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law and with other partners.

Professor Nicholas A. Robinson, Chair of the IUCN Academy and Co-Director of the Centre for Environmental Legal Studies at Pace University, USA; Professor Du Qun of RIEL and Mr. Gui Ling, Program Officer with WHU's International office were also present at the meeting.
The participants discussed the leading positions that both the Research Institute of Environmental Law of Wuhan University, the State Environmental Protection Agency and the Macquarie University Centre for Environmental Law hold within their respective nations and internationally.
Professor De-kun and Professor Jeffery signed minutes of the meeting and pledged to continue the discussions between WHU and MUCEL, with intent to explore establishing new cooperation in the field of environmental legal research, and to hold a further meeting together at Wuhan University at a future date to be mutually agreed.
