World Jurist Association 21st Biennial Congress - (Sydney - Adelaide) 17 - 23 August 2003

The World Jurist Association of the World Peace Through Law Centre held its Twenty-First Biennial Congress on the Law of the World in Sydney and Adelaide from 17 - 23 August 2003. It was founded in 1963 in response to an international outcry for a free and open forum where judges, lawyers, law professors and others from around the world could work cooperatively to raise public support for the institutions that govern and enforce the administration of international law. This was the first Conference held in Australia and was on the theme of World Peace Through the Rule of Law: Celebrating 40 Years of the WJA

Professor Michael Jeffery, Director of Macquarie University's Centre for Environmental Law was invited to present a paper in the Adelaide segment of the Conference on The Impact of Trade and Intellectual Property Rights on Biodiversity Conservation.

In addition Professor Jeffery represented the IUCN at this international symposium in his capacity as Deputy Chair of IUCN's Commission on Environmental Law.
