MU-CEL signs MOU with Shanghai's Jiao Tong University and establishes research links with other leading Chinese Universities
Mu-CEL has been active over the past few months in establishing several new research links with its counterparts at leading Chinese universities. Professor Michael Jeffery was invited to join a delegation headed by Professor Jim Piper, DVC (Research) of senior Macquarie researchers from a number of disciplines on a visit to several universities located primarily in Beijing and Shanghai. These visits, which took place in November 2007, included Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Fudan University, Tongji University – UNEP Centre for Sustainable Development and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
During the visit to China MU-CEL and the Environmental Resources Law Institute (ERLI) of Jiao Tong University signed an MOU at a ceremony immediately following Professor Jeffery’s guest lecture on aspects of climate change. Professor Jim Piper and Professor Zheng Chengliang Vice President and Dean of Jiao Tong’s Faculty of Law signed Chinese and English versions of the MOU on behalf of their respective universities.
These initiatives build upon our exiting relationships in Asia with Wuhan University’s Research Institute of Environmental Law and the National University of Singapore’s Asia Pacific Centre of Environmental Law.
