This far- reaching network links Indigenous Australians, university researchers, as well as business, and government leaders to develop informal and formal knowledge, Indigenous knowledge and Western research to increase social, economic and cultural capital in desert communities.
The DK-CRC will deliver outcomes through four research and education themes.
- Natural resource management for better livelihoods
- Technical services for improved community viability
- Governance, management and leadership for sustainable futures.
- Integrated systems for desert livelihoods.
Donna Craig has been invited as an expert panel member to the initial meeting of the thematic area relating to Governance, Management and Leadership for Sustainable Futures to plan the approach and research agenda of the CRC in this area.
This will include a session on intellectual and cultural property rights. Donna and Professor Garth Nettheim have been asked to profile their ARC research project on Indigenous governance of lands and resources (Indigenous Peoples and Governance Structures. A Comparative Analysis of Land and Resource Management Rights, By Garth Nettheim, Gary D Meyers and Donna Craig, 2002, Aboriginal Studies Press, Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, Canberra).
