MU-CEL to participate in $70,000 research grant awarded to the Australian Centre for Agriculture and Law (AgLaw) at UNE.
MU-CEL is pleased to announce that The Australian Centre for Agriculture and Law (AgLaw) at the University of New England, a law and policy research and consulting centre backed involving UNE's Faculty of Economics, Business and Law and the Faculty of Sciences, was successful in obtaining a $70,000 competitive research grant from Land and Water Australia to design a tax-leveraged conservation instrument based on the use of market instruments and other economic flows. MU-CEL has been in discussions with AgLaw over the past year with respect to negotiating an MOU between both Centres.
Professor Paul Martin, Director of AgLaw, a participant in the IUCN's Academy of Environmental Law Colloquium hosted by MU-CEL in July of this year held further discussions following the Colloquium concerning the inclusion of MU-CEL academic staff in several grant proposals as a way of promoting closer collaboration on research projects and utilizing the unique experience and expertise of both Centres.
Susan Shearing has been named as the collaborator representing MU-CEL with respect to this project and will join several collaborators from UNE as well as participants from the private sector. We congratulate Susan on her forthcoming role in this project. MU-CEL is developing some important niche areas of research and looks forward to a mutually beneficial relationship with AgLAW in the months to come.
