My PhD research is entitled 'The Role of Customary Law in Community-based Marine Management in the South Pacific'. There are many examples of bottom-up natural resource management projects in this region but rarely have they been given legal support or recognition within the dominant legal system. The thesis aims to identify best practice legal frameworks to underpin these projects. The research will also explore the extent to which customary law might be utilised within these frameworks. The focus is upon inshore marine areas in Fiji, Samoa and Vanuatu.
My Principal Supervisor is Professor Donna Craig and my other supervisor is Professor Michael Jeffery.
I am also a lecturer in the Centre for Environmental law and prior to
joining the Centre I practised as a barrister in Sydney.
