Conference Social Program highlights
As well as a number of informal dinners and drinks nights the colloquium program includes a number of social and eco-educational events including

Wallaby research facility, Division of Environmental and Life Sciences, Macquarie University
A highlight of the second day of the colloquium will be lunch with Wallabies resident in Macquarie Universities own wallaby research facility. During a tour of the Facility, delegates will see a range of marsupials bred at the research facility. Staff and postgraduate students of the Division of Environmental and Life Sciences will outline a number of research projects currently being conducted, including predator recognition and behavioral hierarchy, immunology inside pouches of smaller wallabies and population control of kangaroos using contraceptive implants.

Eco-education tour Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park
In addition, on the third day of the Colloquium Professor Ben Boer and Sydney barrister and part-time lecturer in Environmental Law Brian Preston, SC, of the Australian Centre for Environmental Law, at the University of Sydney will lead a Biodiversity Conservation Day Tour to the Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park.

Conference dinner Taronga Centre, Taronga Park Zoo, Bradleys Head Road, Mosman.
The colloquium will culminate with the colloquium dinner to be held at Sydney’s spectacular Taronga Zoo overlooking the Sydney Harbour with views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. A highlight of this function will be pre-dinner drinks and “Animal Encounters” where delegates will mingle with baby wombats, possums, echidna’s, baby salt water crocodiles and various birds and snakes. Delegates will be able to see these and other Australian native species up close and personal, and ask questions of the animal keepers. Bush Couture
Delegates will also be privileged to see a dance section from the 2004 production “In TentCity” choreographed by Associate Professor Raymond D Blanco. This dance section is a haunting and contemporary ode to the women of the earth, mother earth, giver of life. We as modern humans continually pressure the Earth to give up her beauty for our greed. She constantly bounces back with a seemingly unending gift and is able to restore her own life force: but for how long?Designed to represent the beauty of Australia’s land, Indigenous Women and the ability of the Earth to regenerate itself through birth and death. The gowns were designed by Nouvelle Caledonian, Mr Jacques Tchong. The Soundscape is composed by an Aboriginal musician, Mr Cameron Goold of Propoganda Klann.
Conference Dinner Speaker - Associate Professor Anita Heiss
Associate Professor Anita Heiss is one of Australia’s most prolific and well known Indigenous authors of fiction and non-fiction. Her publications include “Dhuuluu Yala (talk straight): publishing Aboriginal literature” and “Who Am I? The Diary of Mary Talence, Sydney 1937”. She is currently Deputy Director of Warawara Department of Indigenous Studies at Macquarie University.
The title of her dinner Address is:
“Indigenous writers on the significance of space, sense of place and connection to country”
