Linda Hajjar-Leib
I have a multidisciplinary background. I studied Biology as an undergraduate student. Upon graduation I taught Biology for five years to middle school students. I then pursued another degree in Political Science followed by a Master in International Relations.
I began my PhD program at Macquarie University in February 2005. My PhD thesis covers the emerging 'right to environment' and its potential role in protecting the environment with a special focus on local communities and indigenous peoples in the Asia Pacific Region.
This claimed right is at the intersection of two main international regimes: the human rights regime and the environmental regime. My belief is that dealing with environmental issues from a human rights perspective will facilitate the implementation of sustainable development goals, despite the fact that global political economy is discouraging such an evolutionary approach.
My supervisor is Professor Donna Craig of the Centre for Environmental Law.
